Category mapping: combine several pairing methods in one feed

Tick several category pairing methods in a feed and put them in order. Products one method misses fall back to the next one.

Category mapping: combine several pairing methods in one feed

Until now a feed paired categories by one method: Shopify categories, product types, collections, rules or a shared mapping. Products that the method did not cover stayed without a category, even when another method would have had a pair for them.

In "Pair categories by" you can now tick several methods and order them with the arrows. When the feed is built, each product goes through the ticked methods from top to bottom and gets the category from the first one that has a pair. For example: Shopify categories first, then collections, then product types.

Every row shows a badge with what is already mapped, such as "12 of 20 mapped" or "3 rules". Existing feeds keep working with their single method until you tick a second one.

What's included

  • Tick a method to use it in the feed and move it up or down with the arrows. At least one method always stays ticked.
  • When the feed is built, the ticked methods are tried from top to bottom and the first one with a pair decides the category. The feed report warns only when none of them has a pair.
  • Each row shows what is already paired: "12 of 20 mapped" for categories, product types and collections, the number of rules, or the shared mapping's name and number of pairs.
  • Click a method's name to edit its pairing table. Rules keep their own order inside "Rules".
  • Existing feeds keep their single method until you tick a second one. Shared category mappings in the Library still use one method each.
Where to find it

Find it in the feed editor under "Map categories" → "Pair categories by".
